Every time I work with one of my clients, the consistent thing I see over and over again – indeed, the thing that has people engage me as their Coach in the first place – is how much they’re suffering. Just like we often don’t go to the doctor unless we have to, because we’re in obvious physical pain and distress, we often don’t do anything about our internal suffering until some kind of crisis, or disturbingly high levels of anxiety, unceasingly give us the message that something is truly wrong and needing our attention…pronto.
I was thinking about this this morning, while pondering the story of a person who is going through unbelievable drama in their life…unnecessary drama, in my opinion. All this drama is happening because this person has been so willing to tolerate – for years – the suffering of their ennui, disengagement, and settling for things being “OK,” instead of taking a stand for the kind of life that – good times or bad – was in their hands, rather than at the fate of whatever happens. To me, a massive number of people are living like this…settling, or “ordering short.” Doing this ages our bodies and deadens our connection to our Spirit and those we love…believe me, I know. I lived that way for years. What’s more insidious and terrifying about this kind of dynamic is how easily our fears allow us to actually accept that this way of being is “normal,” and “ok.”
I’ve done something different today and made a video that discusses this more. It’s a bit longer than your normal blog vid (7 minutes), but I think you’ll find it useful….I hope you enjoy it.
